Description

The story of this Rover 16 HP starts being a new car with a saloon body and was delivered in 1947 to a general in Belgian Congo. Here it has been driving around until 1960 and then went with the owner to Belgium to remain in his possession until 1979. After that 32 years of use, the car was ready for a new owner who gave the Rover a major restoration in 1992. The second owner explored Belgium with it until 2012, when the current and Dutch owner, the saloon bought to bring it to his second home in Spain. But yes … a closed body as this saloon in Spain with only a little ventilation …. That must be changed he thought, and he was sitting a few evenings at the kitchen table with pencil and paper. A notebook full of sketches later the final shape of the body was found out and the Rover 16HP Convertible became reality. A professional sheet metal worker put all his expertise in this job in order to make a one of. And we must say he did a fine job. It is clear that there are no coachbuilders like VanDenPlas, Charlesworth or Cross & Ellis involved, but the result is still very good. We just have to look at it very realistically and keeping in mind that we are dealing here with a basically cheap saloon, which has been converted very creatively and gives much more fun as a saloon. After more than a 6 years’ stay in Spain, the car was widely known around its location and many pictures were made of it. A full parking space at a restaurant? The very expencive Bentleys, Astons and and Bugattis were referred and the Rover? It could be placed in front of the entrance of the restaurant. Those were always nice privileges. Especially if you know the price of the car, and in the background an indignant Bentley owner has to help his high-heeled woman (or girlfriend, you never know ..) to get out of the car and walking in the gravel … Then of course there is already fun before the starter is on the table.

De Rover has just returned from Spain and has the Dutch registration. It drives great and the deliciously smooth 2147 cc. 6-cylinder engine runs perfectly. The 4-speed gearbox shifts smoothly and the and the comfort of the thick seats, is excellent. The paintwork, instruments, woodwork, leather, chrome etc .: everything has a great patina and that’s what the enthusiast likes to see. Storage space is in the trunk and behind the seats enough to make a trip in a sunny weekend.

In short: for those who want to have something rare: for only € 19.250, = a very nice Rover 16HP Convertible is waiting for you.
