Description

Of the 1,883 Silver Wraiths built, just eight examples were bodied by Carrosserie Franay of Paris. Factory records on file indicate this car, chassis LWME58, was ordered by Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis “For use in France” with delivery specified to the glamorous Le Meurice hotel in Paris. As such, it is a rare left-hand-drive chassis equipped with a speedometer reading in kilometers.

The car made its way to the US during the 1970s and benefited from a multiyear restoration that was completed in 2003. Its black paintwork is complemented by a deep red tone used on the rear doors and quarter panels. The razor-edge roofline styling is repeated on the rear deck and trunk lid, while the flowing front fenders extend to the trailing edge of the rear doors. The Sedanca de Ville design features a stowable canopy over the chauffeur’s compartment, center-hinged doors, and cutaway rear wheel spats. Tan leather upholstery is used throughout the interior, complemented by ornate woodwork on the dashboard and door panels. The chauffeur’s partition divider provides privacy for rear-seat passengers, and is fitted with dual writing tables and occasional seats.

This offering pairs Rolls-Royce mechanicals with Franay’s signature design, yielding a most elegant Sedanca de Ville that will surely provide its next owner with miles of distinctive motoring pleasure.
