In March 1963 the new generation of SL sports cars from Mercedes Benz was launched with the debut of the 230SL at the Geneva show. This revolutionary new model replaced the now ageing 190 and 300SL models. Following the demise of the Phantom VI, Rolls Royce no longer offered a full size limousine model, following a number of enquiries from long term customers for a new limousine the brief was given to Mulliner Park Ward, the bespoke coachbuilding arm of Rolls Royce to design such a car.
The new Touring Limousine model based upon the well received Silver Spur model was announced in 1992. It was a much more modern and less ostentatious design than the outgoing Phantom, as useful as a mobile office for the busy company chairman as a parade car for a head of state.
