Description
"The Silver Shadow broke new ground for the Crewe Company in a number of key areas, from the sophisticated fully independent suspension with an advanced self-levelling system to four wheel ventilated disc brakes. The only major components carried over from the Silver Cloud III was the excellent, all aluminium, 6.2 litre V8 and four-speed automatic transmission with fluid flywheel, the latter replaced by GM’s excellent 400 three-speed box in October 1968 while the engine was enlarged to 6.75 litres the following year. Although no power output was ever divulged by the company, merely described as ‘adequate’, the Silver Shadow’s superior aerodynamics meant the car was perfectly happy cruising the motorways. No less than eight individual Connolly hides were used to trim the interior of each car and the standard of finish on the upholstery, rich Wilton carpets and burr walnut veneers was impeccable. Each Silver Shadow employed 20 electric motors, powering everything from the radio antenna to adjusting the individual front seats. Build quality on the Silver Shadow remained unsurpassed, each taking no less than 12 weeks to build from start to finish. This superb example is presented in Silver Sand with dark drown Everflex roof and the desirable beige leather interior, piped in dark brown. The build specification also shows the optional extras of the top roll in dark brown and the lower dash in beige. The front seats have been retrimmed by Strong and Turton (at Frank Dale & Stepsons) and at the same time new carpets were fitted. The air conditioning works efficiently, and a new Alpine stereo system has been installed with connectivity for iPhone and music via new speakers. The wonderful and elegant paint is due to its bare metal respray in its original colour in 2015 at West Hoathly Garage. More recently the owner had a Harvey Bailey suspension kit fitted, new rear discs and new rear calipers fitted; the brake accumulators were also overhauled. The hydraulics are also working extremely well. The car has had invoices in excess of £40,000 spent on this wonderful example in the last five years with the last (12,000 mile) service being carried out in June 2020 at N. Sandell. This is a lovely Silver Shadow II which the present owner has enjoyed for many years and owing to another purchase, sadly it is now being offered for sale."
