Description

"The Silver Shadow was a luxury saloon car built from 1965 until 1980, it was the first Rolls-Royce to be constructed using a monocoque chassis and, to date, has the largest production volume of any Rolls-Royce. The original Shadow was slightly narrower and shorter than the Silver Cloud, which it replaced, but managed to offer increased passenger and luggage space thanks to more efficient packaging made possible by its construction. Aside from a more modern appearance and construction, the Silver Shadow introduced many new features such as disc brakes instead of drum brakes and independent rear suspension rather than the ageing live axle design of previous cars. The car’s most innovative feature was a high-pressure hydraulic system licensed from Citroën, with dual-circuit braking and hydraulic self-levelling suspension. At first, both the front and rear of the car were controlled by the levelling system; the front levelling was deleted in 1969, as it had been determined that the rear levelling did almost all the work. Rolls-Royce achieved a high degree of ride quality with this arrangement.
This fabulous example of the 1970’s icon is presented in very good silver paintwork with a contrasting green leather trim. Originally registered in 1974, this Shadow I remained in Jersey until 2008 with its original owner, boasting a full main dealer service history, until such time that due to a bereavement the car was put into storage until it’s purchase and return to the U.K. in 2018. In 2018, the car was re-registered and recommissioned; it has been used sparingly since and any servicing receipts can be found in it’s history file. The last bill found,  was for the brakes being refurbished and new fuel pumps, all performed in July 2022. Alongside the very good coachwork, this Shadow is particularly stunning inside, the green leather and near perfect woodwork makes this a very pleasurable and very ‘Rolls-Royce’ place to be, and certainly needs to be seen to be appreciated. Offered with all handbooks, service booklets and V5 registration document, this example really is a treat for all of those dreaming of wafting around in a true British great.
