Description

"The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was a luxury saloon car built from 1965 to 1980. It was the first Rolls-Royce to be constructed using a monocoque chassis, and to date has the largest production volume of any Rolls-Royce. Aside from a more modern appearance and construction, the Silver Shadow introduced many new features such as disc brakes instead of drum brakes, and independent rear suspension rather than the ageing live axle design of previous cars. The Silver Shadow featured a 172bhp 6.2 litre V8 from 1965-69, and an 189bhp 6.75 litre V8 from 1970. Both engines were mated to a Turbo Hydromantic 400 transmission which came from General Motors except on pre-1970 right hand drive models which used the same four-speed automatic gearbox as the Silver Cloud, also a General Motors unit. The superb ride quality achieved in the Shadow was thanks to the innovative high-pressure hydraulic system with dual circuit braking and hydraulic self-levelling suspension.
Originally registered on 8th July 1969, the first owner of this Silver Shadow enjoyed this delightful car for 17 years until it changed hands to the current registered keeper on 19th November 1986. With MoT test certificates dating back until 1998, when the mileage was 44,794, it is thought the current mileage of 46,944 is correct although not warranted. The condition of this Rolls-Royce is certainly commensurate with such a low mileage. Finished in Regal Red with tan leather trim, the interior is in good order and shows an age-related patina, picnic tables are fitted to the rear of the car and headrests to the front. Whilst the car has obviously had work carried out on it over the years, areas of the paintwork are delightfully original with the grey primer paint showing through in a number of places. Fitted with a 6230cc V8 engine that is well known for its reliability and smoothness, this Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow I is best described as a very nice, well cared for, genuine example. It is certainly rare to find one with such low ownership and these chrome bumper models are becoming increasingly rare and attract admiring glances wherever driven."
