One of the most exquisite Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I’s that can be found on the market today!

A collector’s dream!

The Rolls Royce Silver Cloud was introduced in 1955. Designed by J.P. Blatchley, the Silver Cloud was the first model from Rolls-Royce to showcase a post-war appearance. The new model featured an improved chassis of rigid box sectioning and a longer wheelbase, giving custom coachbuilders more creativity and customers a larger and more lavish interior. Rolls-Royce’s legendary F-head engine was further refined when it was given twin SU Carburettors for fuel induction in 1957. This refinement would be the pinnacle of the Rolls-Royce straight-6 with 4.9 litres of displacement and 180hp. While the standard 4-door Sedan was well received by the public, custom coachwork was still available from some of the finest English craftsmen including James Young and H.J. Mulliner. The skill of the staff of H.J. Mulliner was nothing short of legendary; so much that their incredible design number 7504 successfully transformed the Silver Cloud Sedan into a stylish Drophead Coupe. Only 13 Silver Cloud I chassis would receive the Drophead Coupe coachwork of H.J. Mulliner, of which only 10 were prepared for the U.S. Market in left hand drive configuration. The U.S. spec cars featured an increased compression ratio of 8:1 for the performance-minded American clientele.

Silver Cloud chassis LSMH195 was delivered to its first owner, Broadway producer Lawrence Carr, in June of 1959. Mr. Carr was very discerning which is noted by the Rolls-Royce build documents that list several pieces of special equipment including door lock weather shields. Additional special features include a fuel pump testing switch (to control fuel flow through one or more fuel pumps) and an incredible rare factory tachometer; a feature seldom seen on any Cloud Series Rolls-Royce. After his acquisition, Carr was frequently seen parading the Drophead Coupe around the East Hamptons. Society columnist Dorothy Kilgallen reported that Carr was spotted on the roadways in the Rolls-Royce with Broadway actress Kathy Carlyle. LSMH195 was then passed to enthusiast Robert Frielich, who cared for the car for several decades and eventually sold the car to a Mr. Kovach of Michigan. Mr. Kovach commissioned the Pebble Beach winning specialists Vantage Motorworks to perform a no-expense-spared restoration on LSMH195. Numerous new old stock (N.O.S.) components were sourced and nearly $340,000 was spent during the entire process. Since the restoration was completed, this Silver Cloud Drophead Coupe has not been shown publicly and would certainly make an excellent presentation at several major Concours d’Elegance events.

This 1959 Rolls-Royce is finished in stunning Sand Acrylic with a Regal Red pinstripe over a gorgeous Tan Connolly leather interior and is quite possibly the best example in existence. It is accompanied by its original owner’s manual, tool kit, nearly $340,000 in restoration receipts and more. We are proud to offer what is without question one of the most exceptional Silver Clouds with incredible provenance to the most astute collector, investor or enthusiast who only desires the best.
