Description

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' Paris event, 13 February 2021.

  • Previously owned by Diego Maradona, acquired by the consignor from him in 2018
  • Last serviced by Rolls-Royce in December 2020
  • Just under 20,600 km from new
  • Desirable ‘Series II’ Ghost

Based upon BMW’s F01 7 Series platform, Rolls-Royce’s new Ghost was unveiled to the public in 2009 as the second model introduced under BMW’s ownership of the fabled marque. Smaller in footprint to the Phantom yet offering the levels of luxury that Rolls-Royce customers had come to expect after over a century of producing the worlds finest motor cars. At its heart was a 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V-12 offering effortless performance at any speed. The model quickly proved successful and a ‘Series II’ Ghost was introduced in 2014 as an update to the original platform. This revised Ghost offered several updates including updated taillights, subtly revised bumpers and redesigned front seats and re-angled rear seats, in an effort to offer a familiar yet refreshed look to the car.

Finished in attractive Arabian Blue with twin coachlines in Seashell over a two-tone Seashell and Fleet Blue interior, this Ghost was previously owned by the late Argentine football superstar Diego Maradona when he was living and coaching in Dubai. Trading in a 2010 Ghost for this car, it was acquired by him in August of 2015, the car is equipped with a number of desirable options including the top-view camera system, a chrome visible exhaust, panorama sunroof, front ventilated seats, lambswool foot mats, and Tuscan Ash Burr veneer trim.

The Ghost remained in Maradona’s ownership until it was acquired directly from him by the consignor in 2018, having been driven roughly 5,000 km in Maradona’s ownership. Today, the car has been driven just under 20,600 km from new and presents very well throughout. Regularly serviced throughout its life, the car’s last service was conducted by Rolls-Royce at 20,000 km in December 2020.

Offering both remarkable luxury and value, the Ghost is truly an excellent automobile in all rights, and one more than worthy of the Rolls-Royce name. A company known for its well-heeled and accomplished clientele, it should be no surprised that someone as successful as Maradona would reward themselves with a Rolls-Royce, and it is clear that he very much liked the Ghost since this example was not his first. With the added benefit of celebrity ownership, this Ghost is more than ready to be used and enjoyed by its third owner.
