You know that feeling when you book an expensive hotel room with your sweetheart. You step inside and enjoy the fact that everything feels exaggeratedly soft yet firm. You pop down and say to each other that the holiday feeling is already creeping in. This is the feeling Rolls Royce wants to promise her owners every day.

In pre-war times there were already a lot of Rolls Royce owners who owned a house in the South of France.  Many of them took a picture with a straw hat and boat shoes at the 'Grand-Corniche', a breathtaking view of the French Riviera. To appeal to precisely this public with a beautiful luxury convertible, the Rolls Royce open touring was christened the Corniche.

As a stunt to spread the comfort, Rolls Royce drove the convertible up and down to Marseille from the factory in one day. This caught on, resulting in an immense popularity which made even the richest of the richest have to wait a long time before they could get their hair blown in style. It may be clear what the car is meant for, enjoying the sunniest places on earth in absolute luxury. The previous owner, a Rolls Royce fanatic and collector, did exactly that last year; up and down to St. Tropez in the Rolls Royce Corniche.

This Rolls Royce was delivered in 1981 by Frank Dale. A name that may not tell you anything at first glance, but they have been specialising in the delivery of Bentley and Rolls Royce since 1942. After that the car drove newlyweds for a long time. Before that, of course, the wedding company had to make sure that the car was always polished to perfection, and perfectly maintained. Last year, the car had a very thorough overhaul at Stoffels Classic Cars; in short, a classic that you can drive with panache to many oyster parties in the South of France.

Sie kennen das Gefühl, wenn Sie mit Ihrer Liebsten ein teures Hotelzimmer buchen. Sie treten ein und genießen es, dass sich alles übertrieben weich und doch fest anfühlt. Man knallt sich hin und stellt fest, dass sich bereits das Urlaubsgefühl einschleicht. Das ist das Gefühl, das Rolls Royce seinen Besitzern jeden Tag versprechen will.

Schon in der Vorkriegszeit gab es viele Rolls Royce Besitzer, die ein Haus in Südfrankreich besaßen.  Viele von ihnen ließen sich mit Strohhut und Bootsschuhen an der 'Grand-Corniche' fotografieren, einem atemberaubenden Blick auf die französische Riviera. Um genau dieses Publikum mit einem schönen Luxus-Cabriolet anzusprechen, wurde der Rolls Royce Open Touring auf den Namen Corniche getauft.

Als Stunt, um den Komfort zu verbreiten, fuhr Rolls Royce das Cabriolet an einem Tag vom Werk aus nach Marseille und wieder zurück. Das setzte sich durch und führte zu einer immensen Popularität, die dazu führte, dass selbst die Reichsten der Reichen lange warten mussten, bis sie sich stilvoll die Haare wehen lassen konnten. Es dürfte klar sein, wofür der Wagen gedacht ist, nämlich um die sonnigsten Plätze der Erde in absolutem Luxus zu genießen. Der Vorbesitzer, ein Rolls Royce-Fanatiker und -Sammler, hat genau das im letzten Jahr getan; mit dem Rolls Royce Corniche rauf und runter nach St. Tropez.

Ausgeliefert wurde dieser Rolls Royce im Jahr 1981 von Frank Dale. Ein Name, der Ihnen auf den ersten Blick vielleicht nichts sagt, aber sie haben sich seit 1942 auf die Auslieferung von Bentley und Rolls Royce spezialisiert. Danach fuhr das Auto lange Zeit Frischvermählte. Davor musste die Hochzeitsgesellschaft natürlich dafür sorgen, dass der Wagen immer auf Hochglanz poliert und perfekt gewartet war. Letztes Jahr wurde der Wagen bei Stoffels Classic Cars sehr gründlich überholt; kurzum, ein Klassiker, mit dem man mit Elan zu vielen Austernpartys in Südfrankreich fahren kann.
