Description

The Rolls-Royce 20HP was produced from 1922 until 1929, concurrent with the company’s larger models, the 20HP being very much a luxury car in miniature. The Twenty was offered only with one chassis length of 129 inches with a number of coachbuilders fitting bodies that epitomised the grandeur and luxury of Edwardian times. Chassis No GPK40 was originally commissioned by the proprietor of Harrisons coachbuilders and was completed to his order in December of 1925. The GPK series was the first to benefit from receiving four wheel brakes and a four speed gearbox, noted improvements on the original design. Following Harrison’s ownership GPK40 was then later owned by Admiral Tovey, the Commander of the Mediterranean fleet during WWII. Chassis No GPK40 changed hands in the 1970’s where it remained part of a family collection until 2014 when it was supplied by Frank Dale & Stepsons for the first time. When acquired in the 1970’s the car was finished in pale blue with black wings but was extensively restored in the early 1990;s where it received a colour change to its present configuration. The history folder is extensive, with details relating to the restoration and subsequent maintenance of the car. The car was also upgraded with overdrive, making it more enjoyable to use on the numerous rallies and events it attended and took part in. During the most recent period of ownership, further improvements have been made, with new tyres and re-built shock absorbers. It is complete with large and small tools and an extensive history file. In our opinion this Twenty is a charming example that drives beautifully. The option of the fully opening Tickford roof adds another dimension to this beautiful motor car, one that will certainly provide the next fortunate owner with a great deal of motoring pleasure.
