Description

The Renault 8 Gordini was launched in 1964 as a hot version of the Renault 8 Major with a 1108 cc engine. The car was developed by driver and engineer Amedi Gordini with the idea of a "rally-winning car" in mind. It is clearly that the model was named after him. It featured a drivetrain redesigned by the Gordini team, improved brakes, an additional oil cooler and an engine with a hemispherical cylinder head and two Weber carburettors. With various updates to make it rally-ready, the Gordini was almost twice as powerful as the Renault 8 Major on which it was based. The Renault 8 itself was a revolutionary car at the time, with four-wheel disc brakes and a five-bearing engine, so it goes without saying that the further modifications made to the Gordini were a surprise to many.

Gordini immediately entered the 1964 Tour de Corse, where it showed superior performance to the Alfa Romeo TZ and Porsche 904, winning its debut victory. However, Gordini himself was not satisfied with this and continued to improve the car to achieve even greater heights. The model that appeared in 1966 was the 1255cc Gordini. It was fitted with Cibie fog lamps as a rally car, wore the "Blue Ciel" colour with two white stripes crossing from the front to the rear engine bay, and featured a five-speed manual transmission, making a debut with outstanding impact. With nearly 100 hp of power for a production car and a top speed of 175 km/h, it became the hot RR compact sedan that attracted amateur and professional drivers alike.

This vehicle came to Japan in 1997. In Japan, the electrical wiring was repaired, the engine mounts were replaced and the gauges were repaired, so it has not been fully restored, but the body itself is in good condition and the engine compartment is clean and crisp. The engine compartment is clean and crisp, and once you breathe into it, it produces a sound that is hard to believe it is a 1255cc car, and anyone who hears that sound will want to take it out for a drive on the mountain roads. The power it has may be a little lacking in city driving, but its small body, measuring less than four metres, makes it very easy to handle in the city. Despite its small size, it is a four-door car, so it is also more practical than you might think. Decals similar to Goldini's for rallying were applied in Japan. You can drive it sporty as it is or in normal Gordini form.
