The Renault 4CV was designed in secret during World War II in German occupied France. At the time Renault had strict instruction to produce commercial and military vehicles. The car was debuted to the public at the 1946 Paris Motor Show, and later went on sale in 1947. The 4CV was produced through 1961, during which time one source reports 1,105,543 examples were produced. It’s hard not to notice the fact that the Renault 4CV bears a striking resemblance to the German Volkswagen.

This 1955 Renault 4CV is presented in tan. Exterior features include rear-hinged “suicide” front doors, a, dual windshield wipers, drivers sideview mirror as well as chromed front and rear bumpers. The car is powered by an inline four-cylinder rear-mounted engine which is paired to a floor-shift manual transmission. The interior is completed in gray with light blue door panels featuring Jaeger instrumentation and bucket seats in front and a bench in the rear.
