Throughout the history of the automobile, one car will stand out among the rest as being indicative of its era, for many people the AC Shelby Cobra will always be the car which symbolises the 1960‘s. The Cobra owed its ancestry back to 1954 with the advent of the AC Ace. The AC Ace Bristol of the late ‘50s made an excellent road sports car as well as a successful club racer, but 1961 the supply of Bristol engines had ceased and AC adopted the Dagenham Ford 2.6 litre, 6 cylinder engine. It was at this time that Texan, Carroll Shelby, notable racing driver, race car constructor and winner of the 1959 Le Mans 24 Hour Race approached AC with his suggestion for a new engine and chassis combination. By good fortune, Ford had just developed a new 221 cu.in.V8 which it intended putting into its new
