It’s hard to imagine it today, but 30 years ago, Porsche was in trouble. Years later many veteran Porsche executives would confess they thought it might mark the end of the company. It’s all the more impressive that when the Porsche Boxster arrived as a production car in 1996, it not only saved the company, it brought legions of new Porsche enthusiasts into the brand family. Penned by Grant Larson, the Boxster design was just the right blend of vintage ideas heralded from the iconic 550 and 356 but fusing new mid-engine architecture into the pantheon of Porsche engineering far beyond their first attempts with the 914. The new 986 Boxster was such a commercial success that it not only saved Porsche, it changed the history and direction of Porsche for decades to come.

Following on the heels of the Boxster, the second generation 987 introduced the Cayman into the lineup, which ran from 2005-2012, once again building a substantial following of new and continuing enthusiasts into the Porsche brand. From 2012-2016 the Cayman was revised again, this time embracing not only technical advancements but also introducing 911 heritage architecture into the front and rear body lines. Not only had the Boxster and Cayman revitalized Porsche sales, each one had clearly become iconic in their own right, earning an important position as the best-selling mid-engine car in history and one of the most successful sports cars ever produced.

This particular Cayman is a highly optioned GTS model delivered new to North America in late 2014 as a 2015 model. The GTS package offered slightly different front and rear bumper treatment and the potent 3.4 liter engine which put out more horsepower than the standard model, being surprisingly quicker when tested even against the venerable 911. The 340 hp flat six-cylinder engine offered more torque, and when mated with the optional dual-clutch PDK transmission delivered shifting performance that rivaled reactions of top F1 drivers, achieving 0-60mph in 4.8 seconds. Speed and exceptional suspension were a big part of the GTS package offering legendary cornering packaged in a surprisingly comfortable car that could be used daily without hesitation or whipped into a glorious froth at your local Porsche track club event on race day.

This particular example was delivered new to the selling dealer Paul Miller Porsche in Parsippany, New Jersey. According to the clean Carfax recently prepared for this car, this Porsche was sold to the first owner who accrued only minimal miles before the current owner purchased it through a dealer in 2016, then showing approximately 1,500 miles. Options ordered new on the car include:

220 Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV)

250 Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)

423 20” Carrera S Wheels

446 Wheel Center Caps with Colored Porsche Crest

583 Smoking Package

594 Roof Lining in Alcantara

GW Leather interior in Black with Alcantara

P9A Convenience Package

P9G Infotainment Package with Bose Surround Sound System

X73 Sport Suspension

XDA Wheels Painted in Black

Over the past four years, the current owner has enjoyed modest use of the car. Originally intending to use it as an occasional track-day car, after participating in five events, the owner found them rewarding, but preferred driving the car on modest country roads or ambling highways in a more leisurely manner. In preparation for those track days, a Cantrell Motorsports gloss white roll bar was discretely installed behind the seats.

Currently showing just 4,872 miles, over the past four years regular services have been performed at Porsche Bellevue and Cantrell Motorsports including oil and filter changes, brake fluid flush, general inspections, and in 2017 a new set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires were installed and balanced. In preparation for sale the front bumper cap was professionally repainted to match the excellent factory finish due to a protective clear film having caused some paint imperfections during the removal process.

Today this highly optioned Porsche Cayman GTS presents essentially as new with excellent factory original white paint that is glossy throughout, showing virtually no significant evidence of use, validating the 4,800 miles it has covered since new. The body is in excellent condition with excellent fit to the pristine factory body panels; doors, trunk, and hood which also have proper panel gaps, tight factory fit along the front and rear bumpers, nicely finished trim, excellent lenses, and original factory glass. The unique optional black painted wheels are in very fine condition with no curb rash along the polished alloy bead edges. Beautifully finished and contrasting black against the white body, the 20” wheels reveal the vented disc brakes, dramatically accented by bright red brake calipers housings at all four corners. The visual presence of this car is confident, powerful, and dynamic in black and white contrast, highlighting the tinted glass lines, accentuating the dramatic profile and roofline of the innovative and unique Cayman fastback design, further accented by a GT4 rear diffuser.

Much like the excellent exterior, the original interior shows virtually no signs of wear and excellent supple leather finishes on the seats, beautifully preserved door panels, and pristine door thresholds. The leather seating surfaces and Alcantara inserts are supple and nicely maintained, supported by selected brushed aluminum finishes throughout the interior. The dashboard, equipped with the Bose Surround Sound system, is flanked by a beautiful central instrument pod showing a stunning array of instrumentation. The Alcantara wrapped steering wheel offers added driving grip and a touch of material elegance. The headliner, sun visors, switches, and controls are all beautifully detailed and function as new. The overall fit and finish of the interior is fresh and nicely composed, exhibiting all the traits of a low mile properly serviced premium sports car. The front storage compartment remains stock from the factory, displaying correct materials and finishes, once again, as new.

The car starts instantly and offers a great exhaust note which settles into a throaty idle. The supreme performance capability in these cars coupled with exceptional brakes, remarkably efficient aerodynamics, make this GTS a fantastic road car. Optioned with both PTV (Porsche Torque Vectoring) system and Sport Suspension, the system delivers enhanced driving dynamics and stability by transferring variable torque to the rear wheels improving power placement at the right dynamic moment in the corner. The superb control, added safety, and amazing driving dynamics included with these combined systems greatly improves even modest driving performance. Further enhanced by a small selection of RSS aftermarket suspension components, this Cayman can be either instantly summoned for canyon carving or enjoy docile cruising in moderate daily traffic.

The car comes with two Porsche factory keys, the factory owner’s manual and accessory books in the Porsche leather case, the unused factory synthetic inflator canister, and unused factory tow hook kit.

Brilliantly engineered and highly option, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire a low mileage, well maintained example of one of the most successful Porsches ever built. This Porsche Cayman GTS is ready for unforgettable performance driving, rewarding weekend getaways, or simply admiring as the marvel of technical engineering and design, brilliantly applied to one of the most capable sports cars of the 21st century.
