"Internally known as the 981, the third-generation Boxster was announced on 13th March 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show. The 981 Boxster reflected the new design language from the 911 (991) and 918 and featured new and revised engine and transmission specifications. Together with a new body, the type 981 Boxster featured a new, 40 per cent more torsionally rigid chassis with a small weight reduction of up to 35 kg compared to the previous type 987 Boxster. The standard Boxster was fitted with a new 2.7-litre flat-six engine equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox and an optional seven-speed reworked PDK. Porsche also claimed that the new generation Boxster provided fuel savings of 15% over the outgoing model.
