Description

"The last front-engined, transaxle sports car from Porsche, the 968 was designed to take over the mantle from the 944, with a claimed 83% of the car being new compared to its predecessor. Featuring an all-alloy twin-cam inline-four engine, near-perfect weight distribution. Specifically, the Club Sport model was offered from October 1992 through 1995, and was marketed to 968 owners looking for a more performance-oriented variant of the model.
Finished in Speed Yellow with contrasting black decals, this 968 Club Sport was first registered in 1993, and has been extensively upgraded for track use, exactly as Porsche intended. Purchased by the current owner just over 10 years ago, the car was recommissioned and upgraded to include a roll cage for easier entry/exit, a refresh of the suspension system, re-instating trim to slightly soften the car for track and fast road use. Following its recommissioning, the car has competed regularly in Goodwood sprint events and track days at Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Castle Combe, reportedly proving competitive and posting good times.
Whilst the interior has been stripped, the car is essentially standard as it runs in the ‘standard’ class at events. However, it is fitted with a competition clutch and Kaaz LSD. The shock absorbers are new Koni items, whilst the Gaz front struts were fitted during the suspension refresh. A built-in fire extinguisher system and electrical cut-off have been fitted, along with competition bucket seats, roll cage and harnesses, front wings and bonnet are lightweight fibreglass items.
Being road registered, the car is kept in excellent mechanical health by the vendor, having recently benefitted from a service and new cambelt. According to the vendor, the car regularly travels over 100 miles to track days, races and then drives home again. It should be noted that the belts and seats are now out of date and would require replacement for competition use and the fire extinguisher will need a re-charge but otherwise there are no known issues that would stop you taking this 968 Club Sport racing once again. The wheels have recently been re-finished in matte black.
There is evidence of extensive expenditure and a general ‘no-holds-barred’ approach to maintenance throughout the vehicle’s life, with a gap in the history from 2010s when the car was off the road. This includes an invoice from February 2020 relating to servicing, differential and gearbox oil change and other works, gearbox removal, strip and re-assembly, new clutch spigot bearing, new CV joints, new gearshift linkage and other works in July 2019 at a cost of £2,231. New pulley seals, cambelt/tensioners, bottom balance shaft pulley, coolant flush, new rear shocks, fitment of Gaz front shocks, new front springs were also all fitted in July 2021.
Offered with a very good history file including a V5C registration document and current MoT test certificate, this competition-specification 968 Club Sport has proven itself both on-track and out on the open road and would make for an exhilarating way into the world of track days and performance driving.
