Description

Chassis No. WP0AB0940HN472010

Long regarded as the affordable vintage Porsche, many of Porsche's transaxle models – the 924 and 944 chief among them – have been well-loved and used over the past 40 years. With inherent reliability and stoutness, these cars are capable of racking up hundreds of thousands of miles and the large majority have! Locating a low-mileage, original example of Porsche's transaxle cars isn't an easy task, especially if the search includes one in an interesting, uncommon color as well.

Offered for just two years starting in 1987, Nile Green Metallic (LY6Y) must be one of the rarest shades ever seen on a Porsche 944. This standout color features a hint of blue when compared with Oak Green Metallic. While the exterior color may be rare, the combination of it with this example's special order Pearl White interior is what truly sets it apart. The interior features pearl white leather sport seats, white carpeting, and an original Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 cassette radio. With this highly customized build specification, it was very likely specially ordered through Beck-Hendrick Porsche of Charlotte, North Carolina with delivery on 28 Janurary 1987 to first owner Russell Alan Cobb hailing from the Queen City.

According to service records and a clean CARFAX report in the accompanying history file, it took until 2005 for this special 944 to accrue just 20,000 miles. By 2011, just under 1,000 miles had been added to the total, a reflection of the emerging understanding that what had previously been an interesting looking older Porsche had now graduated to vintage collectible status. In May 2023, to prepare it for sale, the consignor had new a water pump installed and the timing belt replaced as it was likely the original. Finally, it would be expected that a 944 this well-kept would retain many of the delivery items provided when purchased new at Beck-Hendrick Porsche. Original manuals, a toolkit, jack, spare, and air pump are all included making this one of the most complete, lowest mileage 944 in a rare color combination offered for sale in recent memory.
