Porsche started down a completely new avenue with the introduction of a water-cooled 911, internally know as the 996. With for the first time no air-cooled engine and A to Z new bodywork, the 911 was ready for a new chapter. No; better still a new book. Whilst purists needed some time to get used to the new concept, we can see the 996 making steady progress in the popularity stakes. Porsche lovers certainly do not ignore it and petrolheads who never before have driven Porsche are attracted too.

In 2002 the 996 was given a facelift, most prominently present in the new headlights. Rounder with a small pointy area for the indicator lights. The 2003 911 we have here is from the popular second series. A bonus is the fact it is a Targa version, with a large panoramic glass roof that fully retracts.
The first owner selected the following extensive list of extra’s for this 996 3.6 Targa:

c00 – German delivery
249 – Tiptronic transmission, 5-speed
265 – Automatic anti-dazzle interior mirror and rain sensor
266 – Automatic anti-dazzle door mirrors
288 – Headlamp washer
342 – Seat heating
432 – Tiptronic buttons for steering wheel
476 – PSM Porsche Stability Management
601 – Xenon headlamps
618 – Preparation for telephone installation incl. Console
635 – ParkAssistant
680 – Bose sound system
692 – CD changer

The first Dutch owner bought this Porsche at an official German Porsche dealership in 2007. The accompanying invoices show this car has only been in hands of dedicated enthusiasts, both in the Netherlands as is in Germany.

You would not be able to tell the car’s 151,637 km on the clock from just looking at it. It is in particular fine state.
The grey-silver, Artiktissilber (code 92U), metallic paintwork is in great condition. The alignment is as straight as an arrow, which is no less that one would expect from a Porsche. The interior also presents very neatly. The seats look pristine with matching comfortable fit, sturdy bolsters and the amazing absence of any damage attributable to getting in and out of the car. The dashboard, steering wheel and switching gear all belie the distance travelled over the years.

As mentioned above, mechanically this car is totally sound, backed up by a wad of invoices and correctly completed, original service book. The 3.6 with its 320 hp responds with alacrity to the drivers orders, the Tiptronic gearbox changes quickly and smoothly up and down the gears. This car drives as expected from a well-maintained and fresh 996: Amazingly! A car for pleasure as well as a very usable everyday mode of transport.
