Description
"The first Porsche 911 was introduced in 1963 as the replacement for the much-loved Porsche 356. It has a distinctive design; rear-engined and with independent rear suspension, an evolution of the swing axle on the Porsche 356. Since its introduction in 1963, it has undergone continual development and in 1967, the Targa version was introduced which had a stainless steel-clad roll bar. The name came from the Targa Florio road race in Sicily, in which Porsche had notable success. The road-going Targa was equipped with a removable roof panel and a removable plastic rear window with a fixed glass version offered alongside from 1968, offering the best of open top motoring with the benefit of a weather proof environment for when you arrive in the UK. 1984 was the introduction of the 3.2 litre engine. Although it remained an air-cooled 'flat-six', the 3.2 was 80% new and incorporated an effective cam chain tensioner and associated lubrication system that at last addressed a perennial 911 shortcoming. With 231bhp on tap, the new 'boxer' motor endowed the Carrera with a level of performance approaching that of the original 911 Turbo of 1974; the bold statistics being a 0-60mph time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 152mph.
Originally registered on 1st January 1985 this 911 Targa presents in delightful condition throughout. The Pastel Beige coachwork is in very good order as is the contrasting half leather interior. Start the 3164cc six-cylinder engine on this Porsche and suddenly it becomes apparent why these are such popular cars. Ample power is available under your right foot and with traditional classic styling, responsive handling and the traditional Porsche reliability it is easy to see why these are so desirable. This example has been owned by the vendor for the last seven years and has been very well cared for throughout its 38 years on the road. An original UK supplied right hand drive example this Porsche is supplied with a very good history folder, a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 17th October 2023. The demand for these early Porsche is currently very strong and this 911 Targa is ready to use and enjoy for the summer."
