The 1973 model year marked the final production of the classic “long-hood, slim-bumper” Porsche 911, as new legislation enacted in the United States necessitated the installation of more robust impact bumpers, thereby bringing about the end of the F-Series era.

Immediately prior to this development, Porsche had introduced several updates including mechanical fuel injection, a special front spoiler, the new Type 915/02 five-speed transaxle, and a 2.4-liter flat-six-cylinder engine for the “S” trim level of their iconic rear-engined sports car. As such, the 1973 911 S is particularly sought-after by marque aficionados for its exclusive pedigree, which combines the “best and final” of classic 911 styling with a highly regarded fuel-injection system and limited production.

Capable of sprinting 0–60 mph in just 7.8 seconds and covering the standing quarter mile in 16.3 seconds with a top speed of 142 miles an hour, the 1973 911 S offers dazzling performance figures for an otherwise very tractable road car of the period.

Presented today from The Iannelli Family Collection in its factory-correct, special-order Silver Metallic (80) paint over partial black leather and leatherette (16) upholstery, this handsome US-market 1973 911 S Coupe was delivered new in February 1973 with Koni shocks, Recaro sport seats, green-tinted glass, and a five-speed manual transaxle.

This 911 S has only traveled approximately 2,000 miles since emerging from a complete, concours-grade restoration executed between 2013 and 2015 by Porsche 911 specialists CPR Classic of Fallbrook, California. Photos and parts lists on file from CPR thoroughly document the process of the car’s restoration from a stripped, rotisserie-mounted shell to its reassembly with an entirely rebuilt powertrain two years later. The car’s suspension, brakes, and fuel system were wholly refreshed with OEM parts where required, while the interior was masterfully retrimmed to its original specifications. CPR also fitted a few tasteful upgrades including a Becker Europa II radio, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and staggered set of 15-inch polished light alloy Fuchs wheels.

Since entering current ownership, this desirable 911 S 2.4 Coupe has been treated to nearly $5,000 of routine maintenance, as well as a comprehensive sorting of its ignition system. Sparingly enjoyed, this 911 S is a choice specimen from the final year of the model’s classic, “long-hood, slim-bumper” styling, and it belongs to a truly collectable cohort of one of the motoring world’s most beloved sports cars.To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/mo23.
