Description

"The original Porsche 911 was introduced in autumn 1963 and was manufactured and continuously developed until 1989. It was then succeeded by a modified version, internally referred to as Porsche 964, but still sold as Porsche 911, as are current models. Mechanically, the 911 was notable for being rear engine and air-cooled and, from its inception, the 911 was modified both by private teams and the factory itself for racing, rallying and other types of competition. The original 911 series is often cited as the most successful competition car ever, especially when its variations are included; namely the powerful 911 derived 935 which won the 24 Hours Le Mans and other major sports car races outright against prototypes. Early 1970’s models are perhaps some of the most sought-after, with the narrower bumpers which are especially popular and deemed more attractive on the early 911 with a style that modern ‘restomod’ or backdated styles such as Singer replicate.
This example was purchased by our vendor from Japan in 2020 and it made the perfect candidate for a sympathetic restoration given how good a starting point it already was. It is understood that the car was originally an Irish Green example but at some point had been repainted in white, so a full bare metal respray was undertaken, with photographs documenting the process. The body has been finished to an excellent standard. The interior also presents in fantastic condition, with a brand-new pair of Cobra Stuttgart seats trimmed in black vinyl and black corduroy, which suit the car perfectly. A new headlining was fitted along with new carpets and many other parts all leading to a car which presents superbly throughout. Our vendor has owned a large number of Porsches over the years and decided after driving the car that the engine and gearbox performed exceptionally well and did not require any further attention, he reports the car is a joy to drive. The car is supplied with an MoT test certificate valid until June 2024, a V5C registration document and many invoices for various parts throughout the build process. This is an excellent example of an early air-cooled 911 and is offered with a very reasonable estimate price.Interested parties should note that contrary to the catalogue description the odometer reading is 89,170km and not miles."
