Founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche, the marque has grown into one of the most iconic sports car brands in the world. The name Porsche is a byword for speed, precision and timeless design. The breakthrough came in 1964 with the arrival of the Porsche 911, a revolutionary model that would change the motoring world for good. Designed by Ferdinand "Butzi" Porsche, the founder's grandson, the 911 won the hearts of enthusiasts across the globe. It was loved from day one for its unmistakable fastback silhouette and air-cooled boxer engine, a pairing that has remained all but unchanged ever since.

The 911 has evolved through countless generations, each with its own refinements and improvements, yet always faithful to the original DNA. One of the most coveted variants is, without question, the Porsche 911T 2.2 from 1970. With its unique specification and limited run, this version ranks among the most sought-after classic Porsches of today.

The 911T 2.2: a revolutionary leap in the sports car world

In 1969 the Porsche 911 received a number of technical improvements, including a wheelbase lengthened by 57 mm, which delivered better road holding and greater ride comfort. The result was more stable behaviour on the move, without dulling the playful character that made the 911 so beloved. Porsche kept innovating and, in 1970, launched the 911T 2.2, a model fitted with a larger 2.2-litre boxer engine, good for an extra 15 bhp. That gave the car an even sportier feel behind the wheel, with a more responsive throttle and improved performance on twisting roads.

Of a total production run of 81,032 cars, only 2573 were built in 911T 2.2 specification, which makes this model all the more special. Its unique character is heightened by its rare options and its impeccable restoration history.

A Dutch treasure: originally delivered in 1970

The Porsche 911T 2.2 described here was delivered new in the Netherlands on 30 October 1970. This example left the showroom in the exclusive colour "8484-H Blaumetallic", a timeless and elegant finish that perfectly accentuates the lines of the 911. This 911T came from the factory with the "M470 Comfort Ausstattung" package, also known as the S package. This included gold 911 lettering on the engine lid, velour floor mats, aluminium sill trims, chrome rocker mouldings and the iconic 911S instruments. This example also had a leather-trimmed steering wheel and green-tinted glass, adding still more to its luxurious character.

One of the most special options was the "Leichtmetallrädar 5" option: a set of original 14-inch alloy wheels, including a fifth spare wheel. These wheels were wrapped in Pirelli 185/70/14 Cinturato CN36 tyres, exactly as the car was delivered in 1970.

A colourful life: from California to the Netherlands

Following its Dutch delivery, this Porsche was exported almost immediately to Sonoma, California. Here the car enjoyed years of warm, dry climate, until at some point it was put away and its glory days seemed to be over. It stood idle for years, until in 2014 a new owner, Mr Müller, decided to bring it back to the Netherlands.

What followed was an intensive restoration process. The car was completely stripped and professionally blasted, with every last nut and bolt undone and reassessed. The engine block, a masterpiece in its own right, was entrusted to a specialist for a full rebuild. No detail was skipped in returning the car to its original glory.

A masterpiece reborn: the restoration to perfection

Picture this: an abandoned Porsche 911T, hidden under a layer of dust, waiting for someone to see its potential once more. The paint is dull, the engine has not run in years, and the upholstery betrays the passing of time. But then, in 2020, this 911T fell into the hands of a true enthusiast, someone who devotes himself, as a labour of love, to perfecting classic Porsches. With rare passion and an eye for detail, he began a painstaking restoration.
No expense was spared to restore this Porsche to its former glory. Every part that no longer made the grade was replaced with original Porsche components, supplied by Alpogros, a renowned Porsche specialist in Haarlem. Old, worn rubbers gave way to fresh, high-quality items. The paint was fully reapplied in the original Blaumetallic shade, using only the finest painting techniques. The interior was retrimmed by hand, recreating the original design down to the smallest detail.

The result? A Porsche 911T that feels exactly as it did on that very day in October 1970. From the smooth shifting of the 5-speed gearbox to the characteristic note of the air-cooled boxer engine: everything is just right. The extensive paperwork, including the original booklets, invoices and the "Geburtsurkunde" (certificate of birth) confirms the authenticity of this masterpiece. This is no ordinary restoration, this is a rebirth.

Conclusion: A dream on wheels

The 1970 Porsche 911T 2.2 is not merely a classic sports car; it is a piece of automotive history. This particular example, with its notable Dutch origins, unique specification and loving restoration, is a rare find. It is a car for the true enthusiast, someone who understands and appreciates the soul of a Porsche. With its fully matching numbers, original options and immaculate condition, this 911T is ready to take to the road once again and carry on the Porsche story, exactly as the engineers in Stuttgart once intended.
