MODEL HISTORY
In 1966 Porsche introduced the 911S with 160hp, up from the original 130hp. To distinguish this sports variant from other models it became the first 911 to be equipped with the Fuchs five-spoke alloy wheels.

On an annual basis there were modifications to coincide with American Model Year changes, with additional models released featuring various body and mechanical differences. These included a 110hp 911T and a 130hp 911L (latterly the 911E when the engine became fuel injected) to sit below the 911S.

More significant changes occurred in 1969 as the 1,991cc engine increased in capacity to 2.2-litres and the wheelbase for all models increased from 2,211mm to 2,268 mm (although the overall length of the car remained unchanged as the rear wheels were relocated further back in the bodyshell).

THIS MOTOR CAR
This extremely attractive Porsche 911S for sale at the Classic Motor Hub is fitted with the 2,179cc version of the marque’s highly-regarded flat-6 engine.

After manufacture in December 1969 to 1970 model year specification, it was sold new in July 1970 in the Washington suburb of Lanham in Maryland. Manufactured to LHD USA specification, the car was specified with the rare paint colour of Irish Green and additional options of the Comfort Package and tinted windows.

Its early owners are unknown, but the history file that accompanies the car contains maintenance invoices and US State Title Documents that show it left Maryland for a new owner in Pennsylvania in 2003, before leaving the East Coast for California in May 2005.

After being enjoyed in San Francisco for a few years, it found its way back home to Germany in the summer of 2009 when it was acquired by an owner near Frankfurt, not far from where it had been built almost fourty years before. Soon after arriving, the car benefitted from having its engine and transmission overhauled in April 2010 by a well-established Porsche specialist workshop in Wurzburg.

January 2014 saw this well-travelled Porsche 911S relocate again, this time to England when it was acquired by a historic car dealer on behalf of a client. The sale included the Porsche specialist dealer in Holland carrying out some refurbishment work of the interior prior to delivery, most notably to the seat covers and carpets. After UK registration with the DVLA in March, the car joined a significant collection and saw little use, but expert care in The Classic Motor Hub storage facility.

Recently extracted from our storage and fettled accordingly, the car performs as well as its handsome looks would suggest. Along with the invoices and licencing documents mentioned earlier, the car’s history file includes copies of its German registration documents, correspondence from the DVLA regarding its UK registration, plus letters and certificates from Porsche confirming the build specification of the car and that it’s still powered by the engine it left the Stuttgart Factory with 51 years ago. Although it is unknown when the car received restoration work to the body, the panels and paintwork are in very good condition, as is the interior of the car.

This wonderfully Irish Green Porsche 911S is now for sale at The Classic Motor Hub, and with its interesting and well-travelled history and extremely presentable condition, would make a superbly usable and enjoyable classic car to drive and own for its next lucky owner.
