Description
Influenced by its successful 935 race car, Porsche’s Sonderwunsch-Programm (Special Order Program) began offering a 930 with a Flachbau – or “Flatnose” – starting in 1981. This option replaced the 930’s standard front end with a vented, sloping nose for better aerodynamics. From 1987 to 1989, the M505 Slantnose was a $23,244 option on US Porsche dealers’ price lists.
Finished in Guards Red over a Champagne leather interior, this 930 was completed on June 15, 1987, and delivered to Jim Ellis Porsche in Atlanta. Besides its Slantnose option, additional features included an electric sunroof, driver lumbar support, velour-trimmed luggage compartment, and Blaupunkt radio. From 2018 to 2020, the 930 received extensive service and refurbishment by marque specialists, with invoices totaling over $100,000. Receipts on file document an engine-out service by Porsche Classic, and attention to the air-conditioning, suspension, and braking systems by Stahl Motorsports in West Palm Beach, Florida. A new interior was installed and the 930 also received paint correction with protective ceramic coating and refinished wheels by specialist Harvey Weidman.
Due to its limited production and unique design, the Slantnose is regarded by many as an icon of the 1980s. Offered from a significant collection of Porsches and Ferraris, this is a well-documented example that is sure to draw attention on the open road and at Porsche-specific events.
