Porsche upgraded its ground-breaking 911 Turbo in 1978 with more power and better brakes. Output increased considerably, the turbocharged flat-six engine growing from 3.0 to 3.3 litres and gaining an air-to-air intercooler, which necessitated revising the model’s distinctive rear spoiler. This engine specification would persist through to the end of the 930-generation’s production in 1989, a testament to its phenomenal power and performance capabilities.
Porsche produced 960 examples of the 911 Turbo Coupé for 1983. Offered here is one of only 59 such cars delivered to Switzerland. It is made even more appealing with its non-standard factory colour scheme of “Paint To Sample” Anthracite Grey Metallic over a full leather Light Grey Florida Pearl interior (also “made to customer sample”). The car completed production on 12 April 1983, fitted from the factory with a four-speed manual transaxle, air conditioning, power sunroof, rear two-point seatbelts, and power-adjustable mirrors—the passenger side was optional. Dispatched to Switzerland, it is said to have originally been delivered to a Swiss banker. They reportedly drove the car very little before it passed to the second owner, a Portuguese entrepreneur with a second residence in Switzerland. He is thought to have subsequently imported the car to Portugal and retained it until early 2020, when the consigning owner acquired it.
The Porsche has remained well cared for by its short chain of conscientious owners and retains its matching-numbers engine. Impressively preserved and presenting beautifully throughout, it has reportedly been driven fewer than 9,000 kilometres under present ownership. The odometer showed 91,421 kilometres at the time of cataloguing.
