The Carrera RS Clubsport is the most extreme naturally aspirated factory-production variant of the 993-generation Porsche 911. Based on the Carrera Cup competition car, it was conceived as a homologation special for the GT3 and GT4 categories of the BPR Global GT Series.
Its engine derives from the 3.6-litre flat-six of the Carrera RS, but the displacement was increased to 3,746 cc by enlarging the bore. Porsche’s innovative VarioRam intake and Bosch Motronic engine management system were also fitted. With these changes, it produced 300 horsepower at 6,500 rpm, delivered through a single-mass flywheel to a type G50/31 six-speed manual gearbox.
Porsche focused on making the Clubsport as lightweight as possible, using an aluminium front bonnet, lightweight interior door cards, thinner glass, and Recaro sport seats with six-point racing belts. The headliner was omitted, with other creature comforts left out to save weight including electric mirrors, a central locking system, radio, speakers, rear defroster, and airbags. These accoutrements made way for additional racing-focused hardware, such as a Matter roll cage, front strut brace, ball-joint front damper mounts, adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars, a battery cut-off switch, and a fire extinguisher. A specially designed front air-splitter and large rear wing visually distinguish the Clubsport from other Carrera RS models.
This 1995 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8 Clubsport was completed by the factory on 28 March 1995 and was sold new to a resident of Arnberg, Germany. The consignor acquired this Carrera RS 3.8 Clubsport in September of 2009 with approximately 46,000 kilometres then indicated on the odometer. Now showing only 46,609 kilometres as the time of cataloguing, it has been driven sparingly under current ownership and the accompanying warranty book’s stampings corroborate a track record of maintenance at Porsche dealers in France and Germany.
The car left the factory finished in Black and equipped with cloth-covered bucket seats. Factory options beyond the requisite Clubsport equipment included a heavy-duty battery, driver airbag, air conditioning, top-tinted windscreen, and a Blaupunkt Düsseldorf RCR 84 AM/FM stereo. Other equipment installed from the factory included power steering, 92-litre fuel tank, strut bar, limited-slip differential, traction control, and an immobiliser. The factory-fitted wheels have since been replaced with 18-inch, two-piece BBS rims. The Blaupunkt stereo is no longer present and an aftermarket track timer has been installed in the center of the dash. An Alcantara-lined Momo steering wheel replaces the factory, leather-covered steering wheel, which is included with the car. The Porsche retains its matching-numbers engine.
Offered with its factory manuals and copies of various documentation, including previous registrations, inspections, and German certification, this 1995 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8 Clubsport is a stellar candidate for an excellent track day machine.
