Description

Introduced at the behest of US importer Max Hoffman, the iconic 1954 Porsche Speedster was a purist sports car offering bucket seats, doors with slide-in plastic side windows, and a shortened windshield. To help commemorate 25 years of 911 production, the Speedster concept was resurrected for the G-series 911 during the 1989 model year.

Much like its predecessor, the 911 Carrera Speedster featured a windshield
that was shorter and more raked than the Cabriolet, while a svelte dual-hump
cowl replaced the back seats and concealed a stowed-away fabric folding top. The Speedster’s standard 3.2-liter air-cooled flat-six engine produced 217 hp and was mated to a G50 five-speed gearbox with hydraulic-clutch operation.

Finished in classic Guards Red over a black leather interior and soft top, this Porsche 911 Carrera Speedster was completed by the factory at Zuffenhausen, Germany, in June 1989. Additional equipment included air-conditioning, limited-slip differential, shorter gearshift lever, raised-hub steering wheel, alarm system, rear storage compartment, California state emissions system, and a Blaupunkt “Charleston” AM/FM cassette radio.

Showing just under 22,000 miles on its odometer at the time of cataloguing, this Speedster presents in a highly original manner throughout and shows obvious pride of ownership. Accompanied by its books, tools, spare, inflator, and jack, this one-year-only Speedster would be a worthy addition to any Porsche collection.
