The Porsche 911 was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963. The car was a natural continuation of the Porsche 356, which originated in the village of Gmünd in Austria, and whose production had moved to Stuttgart, Germany, after the Second World War.
While the 356 borrowed many parts and the four-cylinder boxer powertrain was developed from the VW Typ 1 engine block, the Porsche 911 was powered by a rear-mounted, air-cooled 6-cylinder boxer engine. The sporty and round shapes with round headlights followed the design language familiar from the Volkswagen Typ 1 and still from the Porsche 356.
The air-cooled car was not only light, but also simple to maintain and tune. Thanks to its simple technology, it was also suitable for everyday driving and was easy and effortless to drive.
From the beginning, the Porsche 911 was designed as a sports car and racing car. In the mid-1970s, different variations of the 911 were successful in both the Targa Florio and the Daytona 24 Hours. Brand championships for Porsche came with the 935 developed from the 911 in the 24 hours of Le Mans no less than in four consecutive years from 1976 to 1979.
The wheelbase of the original 911 was already extended in 1969 to enable better handling. In 1974, the 911 G-series went on sale, which had a more modern and safer body with larger bumpers. With the G-series, the 911 engines were available with electronic fuel injection for the first time. In 1984, the last engine update was made for the naturally aspirated G-series cars, when the displacement increased to 3.2 liters and the power output to 231 horsepower. At the same time, the Carrera name was revived for the first time since 1977. The last significant technical step for the G-series 911 cars was the G50 transmission manufactured by Getrag, introduced for the 1987 model year. At the same time, the clutch became hydraulic.
This 1987 911 3.2 Carrera was delivered from the factory to its first owner, Karlheinz Tegtmeier in Wolfburg, on December 12, 1986. The car’s history is complete and all five owners are known. The first owner kept the car until spring 1989, when he sold the car on April 12, 1989 in Kerpen, Germany, to a Finnish man named Jorma Ala-Lahti from Jyväskylä, Finland. Ala-Lahti, known as rally legend Juha Kankkunen’s mechanic, kept the car until summer 1993, when he sold it to Industrial Counselor Kauko Pouttu in Kannus. Industrial Counselor Pouttu sold the car in 2006 to a well-known air-cooled car enthusiast Paavo Haapalainen in Joensuu. In autumn 2017, the current owner, Deputy Judge V.Okkonen, purchased the car.
The Porsche has been well-maintained since new and the history of car is well-documented. The car’s original German-language instruction manuals and service book are preserved in the original Porsche vinyl folder. Registration papers from changes of ownership and other historical documents are also preserved.
The car’s Marineblau metallic paint is in excellent condition and the blue leather upholstery is completely original in very neat condition. The car has Continental Conti Sport Contact tires on the car’s original 6” & 7” Fuchs rims. The car’s original equipment include a larger battery, heated mirrors, a convex passenger mirror, and a heated, partially electrically adjustable driver’s seat. The car’s steering wheel has been replaced with an original Porsche GT steering wheel, the original is also in stock. Apart from the steering wheel, the new Porsche sport exhaust system, and the Bosch Gen 2 MAF kit, the car is completely original. All original parts are also preserved.
The car’s original matching numbers engine runs and the car drives simply wonderfully, and the gearbox works precisely. The last scheduled oil change was done on 04/24 (204,000). During the 2020s, the exhaust system, fuel lines, and clutch have been replaced, and numerous smaller maintenances and repairs have been carried out. Repairs and services are documented.
