Description
Model history
In 1979, Porsche had made plans to replace the 911 SC with their new 928. Sales of the 911 remained so strong however, that Porsche revised its strategy and decides to inject new life into the 911. This came in the form of the 911 Carrera 3.2, which was introduced in 1984. Reviving the Carrera name for the first time since 1977. This was the last iteration in in the original 911 series, with all following models featuring new body styling with new brake, electronic and suspension technologies.
The car featured a new 3.2-litre flat six engine. The new volume of 3164 cc was achieved using the 95 mm bore of the 3.0 SC combined with the 1978 Turbo 3.3 crankshaft's 74.4 mm stroke. In addition, new pistons increased the compression ratio from 9.8 to 10.3:1. New inlet manifold and exhaust systems were fitted. The 915 transmission was carried over from the SC series for the first three model years. In 1987, the Carrera 3.2 got a new five-speed gearbox sourced from Getrag, model number G50 with BorgWarner synchronizers. This heavier transmission also featured a hydraulically operated clutch.
With the new engine, power was increased to 207 bhp for North American-delivered cars and to 231 bhp for most other markets. This version of the 911 accelerated 0–100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and had a top speed of 240 km/h as measured by Autocar. Factory times were more modest, with numbers ranging from 6.3 to 6.1 seconds.
The brake discs were increased in size to aid in more effective heat dissipation and improved oil-fed chain tensioners were fitted to the engine. To improve oil cooling, a finned cooler replaced the serpentine lines in the front passenger fender well. This was further improved in 1987, with the addition of a thermostatically controlled fan.
Driving refinement and motor reliability were improved with an upgrade of the fuel and ignition control components to an L-Jetronic with Bosch Motronics 2 DME (Digital Motor Electronics system). An improvement in fuel-efficiency was due to the DME providing a petrol cut-off on the overrun.
Three basic models were available – coupé, targa and cabriolet. The Carrera is almost indistinguishable from the SC with the external clue being the front fog lights that were integrated into the front valance. Only cosmetic changes were made during the production of the Carrera, with a redesigned dash featuring larger air conditioning vents appearing in 1986.
This example
This particular car is a nice example of the immortal Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet from 1986. Finished in the classic color Dunkelblau (dark blue) with a black half leather interior. Dunkelblau is a special order colour as it was not standard available on 991 3.2 models.
The following options are installed from the factory: seat heating left, shorter lift lever for type 915 transmission, central locking system, 15 inch forged alloy wheels and an electrical soft top. The original Service book is included and confirms the mileage of 233.000 km. This 3.2 Carrera was originally delivered through Autohaus Minrath in Germany on 28 February 1986. And until 1994 the car spent it’s life in NordRhein-Westfalen. In 1994 the car was exported to the Netherlands and in 2005 the car was acquired by its current Dutch owner and at 195.000 km.
Every single service in the ‘’Pflegenachweis’’ is either stamped by a Porsche dealer or a Porsche specialist, starting from 16 April 1986 at 2.609km.

This Porsche has a documented mileage of 233.100 km and comes with servicebook and many invoices. The car shown here is your chance to own a proper Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet in an interesting colour at an attractive price. The car has no signs of accidents and has had a partial repaint in the past and presents very nicely with excellent panel fit. In the trunk the car looks to be very well preserved and the inside of the bodywork is factory correct. Impressive as the car already has 36 years of age! The original carpets are a bit faded which we would change for a new owner at extra cost. The dark blue hood is nice and has already been replaced in the past. The centre pieces of the seats have been retrimmed in near to original velours with striping.
The car performs well with a strong engine with good oilpressure. The gearbox shifts very well for a 915 type. A lovely car to drive. The car rides on 15 inch original Fuchs. The 911 3.2 Carrera is one of few cars to handle a higher mileage well. This car won’t disappoint.
Price is Euro 49.500,-.
