Description
"Many a car enthusiast at one time or another has dreamt of owning a Porsche 911; few 911’s have set the pulses racing like the poster car for the 80’s generation with the iconic whale tail accompanied by fabulous performance. The 3.2 Carrera is revered as the ultimate development of the original 911 that first appeared in 1963. Launched in 1984, and reviving the ‘Carrera' name for the first time since 1977, the most notable advance on the 80's Carrera was the introduction of the 3.2 litre engine; although it remained an air-cooled 'flat six', the '3.2' was 80% new and incorporated an effective cam chain tensioner and associated lubrication system that at last addressed a perennial 911 shortcoming. With 231bhp on tap, the new 'boxer' motor endowed the Carrera with a level of performance approaching that of the original 911 Turbo of 1974, a torque rich 231 bhp - enough to propel the lithe and slippery coupé to over 150 mph, with 0-60 mph coming up in 5.6 seconds. All 3.2 Carreras feature galvanised bodies which, together with Porsche's legendary build quality, ensure that these classics are long lasting.
This fabulous two owner example was first registered on 6th January 1986 and specified in Slate Blue metallic with Grey Beige leather interior; a colour combination not offered at that time but due to the buyer’s preference for the colour in his previous Porsche he insisted on a special order. Combined with another request to have the radio aerial located on the near side wing, it sparked a 28-year love affair with his Carrera Sport which lasted until 2014 and even saw the car being exported to his home in Monaco for a short time. Our current vendor, an ex-Porsche employee, is a self-proclaimed Porsche geek and has continued the excellent upkeep of this five-speed Targa example. Upon purchase, the car had been comprehensively serviced and cared for with 12 stamps found in the original service booklet accompanied by countless invoices and receipts for work. In 2015, with the odometer reading 149,153 miles, our vendor embarked on recommissioning and servicing his new car at Porsche Reading; an invoice for which can be found in the history file. A pilgrimage to Le Mans was sandwiched between another service in 2016 at Mid-Sussex Porsche just 700 miles later, and the car is described as in fine fettle by our vendor. Further invoices for works carried out by a local specialist Ray at Performance Motor Bodies, Bosham Nr. Chichester who in 2017 took care of any corrosion, including new kidney bowls can be found in the cars history file. Accompanying what can be considered as one of the very best cared for Porsche’s we have offered, is a full original book set, two keys, the original invoice and Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche; even the original unused tyre pressure gauge in its leather pouch is included together with an original brochure. Viewing is highly recommended for this exceptionally well kept and desirable 911 Porsche Carrera Sport.
