The Dakar Classic is one of the most challenging long distance, vintage car rallies in the world. Drawing its heritage from the famous Paris-Dakar Rally and happening along the same route as the modern Dakar Rally, the two week, 6,000+ km event is a rigorous test of car, driver, and navigator. Often, teams will spend years preparing for an event such as this to prepare themselves and their vehicle for the event.

Then there is Amy Lerner. An accomplished rally driver having learned from Baja legend Rod Hall and driven numerous events including the Rallye Aicha des Gazelles in Morocco, Australasian Safari Rally, and Mint 400, the world of off-road driving was not new to her. Starting only weeks before the deadline, she decided to go ahead and enter the 2021 Dakar Classic in Saudi Arabia. Initially looking to do the event in a rented Land Rover, she found the Porsche offered here for sale and pounced on the opportunity to run the event in it.

An event proven car prepared originally by Henrard Racing in Brussels, Belgium, the 911SC had already proven itself in with a 1st overall at the 2013 Dakar Classic Rally-Morocco at the hands of Stéphane Henrard and a 6th and 9th place—respectively—at the 2013 and 2014 Historic Morocco Rally with former F1 driver Eric Van de Poele at the wheel. Beefed up with upgraded suspension, underbody skid plates, a Claudio SG Racing built 260bhp 3.0-litre motor, AP Racing disc brakes, and so much more, it was as close to a turnkey machine as one could get. It didn't hurt that it was already was wrapped in classic Rothman's livery—echoing the scheme worn by Jacky Ickx's Dakar winning 959s.

Determined to complete the Dakar Classic in Saudi Arabia with an all-female team, Lerner enlisted her friend Sara Bossaert, an accomplished nautical navigator but novice rally navigator to assist her in the car. Along with a pair of mechanics, a team manager, and a media manager, the team set off for the desert to make history.

Starting as one of 24 teams in the inaugural Classic event and the only all-female team, the Rothmans Porsche became a favorite of the bivouac and has appeared in media outlets around the world. Pushing through all the challenges of the event, Lerner and Bossaert managed to finish 15th overall and 2nd in class with their only significant issues being the replacement of a broken shock mount and a single busted tire.

After a full rally prep in Belgium, Lerner and Bossaert entered into the 2022 event wiser and more experienced. On this occasion, in January 2022, entry to the event became so popular that it was capped with 142 teams registered. Bringing the 911SC back to Saudi Arabia to tackle a new route across 6100 km of rugged desert, Lerner and her team powered through to an admirable 35th overall including a stage win on day 9. At the Dakar bivouac, they had an opportunity to meet the legendary Jacky Ickx and the Porsche now sports his autograph on the roof.

Today, the Porsche is offered fresh from being post-event serviced by GRally, the de Mevius family team, and is complete with a massive cache of spares (a three-page list covers the contents), and copies of records including 2015 R.A.C.B. Sport Attestation pour Vehicules de Sport, safety cage certification, certificate d'immatriculation, and more. A welcome entrant to any number of fantastic and desirable events such as the Dakar Classic, East African Safari Classic, and more, all it needs is a new owner to make it their own.
