Description

As one of the final developments of the legendary air-cooled 911, Porsche’s 993 Turbo S left nothing on the table. Evoking styling cues from the 959 supercar, the Turbo S utilized an intercooled twin-turbo engine producing 424 bhp at 5,750 rpm – capable of propelling the stylish coupe to a top speed of 188 mph as reported by Car and Driver magazine in July 1997. Assembled by Porsche’s elite Exclusive Department – an in-house special projects shop – only 176 examples would be imported into the US, making the Turbo S one of the rarest and most desirable cars in the 55-year history of the 911 model.

Fitted with the 959’s all-wheel-drive system, the Turbo S had extraordinary traction and handling capabilities which contributed to Car and Driver’s stunning 12.2-second elapsed quarter-mile time. Visually distinguished from a standard 993 Turbo by its quad exhaust tips, larger rear spoiler, and quarter-panel air inlets, the Turbo S remains one of the very highest points of the wildly popular 993 series.

According to its accompanying certificate of authenticity, the options on this Turbo S included supple leather seats with lumbar support, digital sound package, footwell lighting, self-dimming mirrors and rain sensor, infrared security system, and a carbon/leather steering wheel. Evocative of the great German racing cars of the past, this example is resplendent in Polar Silver Metallic paint with a Black Leather interior.

Delivered new to Don Rosen Imports of Pennsylvania in 1997, the Turbo S was first registered in April of that year in Miami, and had several enthusiast owners before becoming a part of The James G. Hascall Collection in 2006. Mr. Hascall purchased the Turbo S from a California enthusiast, selecting it for its outstanding appearance and low mileage. The car displayed just over 15,000 miles at the time of cataloguing, as documented by its CARFAX Vehicle History Report, and it remains in beautiful condition today. A sign of its originality, the Porsche retains its original option sticker underneath its hood, and the VIN sticker in its passenger- and driver-side doorjambs. During its previous ownership, a garage incident caused a dent near the gas filler, which at Mr. Hascall’s behest was repaired by German Tech of Largo, Florida. Receipts for this and other repairs remain in the car’s file.

The 993 Turbo S is widely praised for being an exclusive yet highly usable modern classic. This wonderful example is complete with service records, original manuals, tools, jack, spare, tire inflator, and even its gloves for use during roadside repair. In a desirable combination of colors and options, and in exemplary condition, this 993 Turbo S represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a significant modern Porsche.
