Bring A Trailer Auction Preview: 6-speed 35,000 mile example fresh out of long-term California ownership1997 Porsche 993 Carrera S CoupeChassis Number – WP0AA299XVS322932Exterior Color – Ocean BlueInterior Color – Tan LeatherEngine Type – 3.6 Liter six-cylinderGearbox – 6-speed manualCurrent Miles – 34,160 milesHistory of the 993An instant classic, the 993 generation Porsche 911 continues to remain one of the most sought-after models, decades after introduction. As the last of the air-cooled 911s, the 993 represents the most developed of the original formula that first appeared in 1963. The layout of the instruments, the body design, and the entire greenhouse is thematically unchanged from the original 911, blending the essence of the original with the finest in modern technology. These cars have a feeling of solidity and craftsmanship that departed entirely in the 996 generation, which replaced the 993, but has been missing from almost every version made in the ensuing decades since.Yet despite this heritage architecture and bespoke craftsmanship, the 993 is impressively modern, even 25 years after its introduction. The sophisticated multilink rear suspension and massive rear tires make the rear placement of the engine a non-issue, while the twin plug 3.6 liter flat-6 is a torquey high-performance unit that is both tractable and full of character. The brakes, always a Porsche strong suit, are superb, and the gearbox is Porsche's robust 6-speed G50 unit. Sophisticated and high performing but also capturing the essence of the original 911, the 993 is the best of both worlds, making them true classics that can be driven and enjoyed daily in modern traffic.History of this Porsche 993According to the Porsche hood sticker and Carfax history, this Carrera Coupe first sold through a Lidle, IL dealer in May 1997. The car was outfitted with the following options from the factory:CO2 – Catalytic Converter Equipped159 – Motor Sound Package235 – Bridgestone or Pirelli Tires408 – 18” Tech Wheels (1996)437 – Comfort Seat Left438 – Comfort Seat Right454 – Automatic Speed Control490 – HiFi Sound System650 – Sunroof 688 – CDR 210 RadioThe first owner, a resident of Princeton, NJ retained the car until late 2001 when it was sold to the second owner, a New York resident. The second owner retained the car until 2012 with regular services, fluid changes, and regular emissions inspections. The third and current owner, a resident of Los Angeles, CA purchased the car in 2012. The current miles are consistent and reflective of accumulation per service invoices and Carfax reporting for services and bi-annual California emissions inspections, which are all recorded with passing results from 2012-2022.Copies of service records accompanying the car include the following services and parts purchases of note – 2001, new floor mat. 2002, sunroof headliner re-attached for better fit, new spark plugs, and air dam guides replaced. 2003, new central lock control unit and alarm control module installed. 2007, V belts replaced, brake fluid flushed, and headliner at sunroof reattached. 2009, brake fluid flushed with annual service. 2010, major 30k service performed along with 4-wheel alignment. 2013, major AC service with new AC controller, new evaporator, new expansion valve and receiver drier, and a new oil cooler resistor. 2017, new battery. In 2022 a new set of tires were installed, and an oil and filter change performed.Current ConditionToday, this Porsche presents beautifully with original factory paint that is exceptionally well preserved and glossy throughout. The finish has been metered with a digital paint meter, returning single digits on all metal body panels. It appears that the left front fender has been resprayed with a coat of clear, although readings on this fender are 6-8mls. The body is in excellent condition showing excellent factory door, trunk, and hood gaps with factory fit along the front and rear bumpers, excellent lenses, and original factory glass. The wheels are in excellent condition with no curb rash and beautiful finishes fitted with a set of Continental tires purchased in 2022.The original interior is in excellent condition, reflective of the low original miles. The leather seats and leatherette throughout the interior are very nicely preserved. The center console features the original radio and of course, the 6-speed gear shift; a legendary and now rare hallmark of Porsche performance cars. The dashboard, gorgeous instruments, and center console are all in excellent condition with all switches and functions operating as expected. The headliner, sun visors, and carpeting also offer excellent visual presentation. The overall fit and finish of the interior is fresh, cohesive, and exhibits all the traits of a properly stored low mile Porsche. The engine compartment and trunk are both unmodified and visually consistent with the miles indicated. The original engine is correct and properly maintained offering more torque and power than the early 993 motors. The trunk still retains the original materials and factory finishes including the collapsible spare tire, proper black molded components, factory treated metal parts, and correct hardware. The car starts instantly, and the clutch and gearbox work well together, owing in part to the low miles and consistent care throughout three owners. The motor provides wonderful induction sounds and the performance is robust, even by modern standards. The suspension retains the much lauded 911 character with easily modulated brakes on a firm pedal. The chassis is composed, tight, and authentic, showing no evidence of structural compromise when inspecting the underside. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a low mileage, well maintained and handsomely optioned example of one of Porsche’s most desirable cars.Included with This PorscheThe car is accompanied by a factory air compressor, factory tools and tool roll, owner’s manual packet in leather case, a Bosch battery tender, touch up paint, and copies of service invoices.
