1964 Porsche 356C / 1600 SC - Coupe by Karmann

Built in 1964, this Porsche 356C was exported new to the United States of America and registered in 1965. In the 80’s, the Porsche was imported to the United Kingdom whereupon it was rebuilt for historic rallying. The 356 benefits from numerous upgrades including additional oil cooler, full-flow oil filter conversion, long-range fuel tank, sump guards, CIBIE spotlights, close ratio 2nd & 3rd gears, roll-cage, bucket seats with in-date harnesses, fire extinguisher and Branz navigation equipment.

The engine fitted in the Porsche is a more powerful but period correct 1600 SC (Type 616/16) which has been rebuilt by 356 specialists, Prill Porsche Classics. The car was repainted in metallic graphite by a previous Dutch owner who enjoyed many years of successful rallying with the car.

The current owner purchased the Porsche and entrusted Tuthill Porsche to fully go through the car ahead of using it in the UK with the following work carried out;

‘Fully check over car, manufacture sump guards and mountings, Check all electrics. Re-wire under dash, replace map light, supply and fit new tyres and spare wheel rim, fit Brantz and navigation equipment, fit mudflaps, bleed brakes, replace gear lever bushes and bottom mount, fit new seat belts, service engine and adjust tappets, replace seals in fuel tap, adjust heater flaps, replace leaking oil seals in rear hubs and replace handbrake shoes due to oil contamination, service carburetors and replace leaking float valves.’

Along with its history file and UK registration Certificate (V5C), the 356 will be supplied with an additional set of steel wheels fitted with Goodyear gravel tyres.
