Description
Porsche introduced the 356 B at the Frankfurt Motor Show in late 1959 to popular acclaim. Its new T-5 body sharpened an already attractive package, slightly raising the nose and accentuating the front fender line to subtly update Porsche’s already renowned sports car profile.
The 356 B Coupe offered here, presented in a striking black over red color scheme, was the recipient of a recent high-quality, nut-and-bolt restoration by Walt Johnsen of Bainbridge Island, Washington. The resulting car combines concours-level cosmetics with an uprated, high-performance engine, transforming the character of the normally sedate 356 B into something different altogether. Utilizing twin-spark ignition and 44 mm Weber carburetors, the 1,750 cc engine was built using high-quality components at a cost of $30,000 by 356 specialist Morris Brothers Motorsports of Murray, Utah. This potent powerplant is estimated to produce 125 hp and 125 lbs./ft. of torque, more than double the 356 B’s stock 60 hp specifications, and should prove adept at creating a unique 356 driving experience.
This gorgeous 356 B Coupe is complete with a jack, spare tire, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, as well as documentation from the restoration and engine build. Showing only 100 miles since its completion, it is a handsome example of Porsche’s classic coupe, expertly restored in attractive colors and benefiting from tasteful performance upgrades to reward enthusiasts.
