Description

Chassis No. P857H22169

The 1957 Pontiacs were in their last year of its three-year lifecycle, yet new "Star Flight" styling kept them fresh. But tap the accelerator! "The Pontiac is the fastest-accelerating Detroit family car that Motor Trend has tested yet this year, which surprised us," the publication declared. "Without losing any of the comforts of a family sedan, it has become a real 'fun to drive, get up and go' automobile." Just below the expensive limited-production fuel-injected Bonneville convertible, the stylish $2,109 Star Chief Catalina two-door pillarless hardtop looked the part. It was promoted as having "man-sized comfort" and the "barrel-chested Strato-Streak V-8" packing 270 hp from 347 cu-in driving GM's famed "Strato-Flight" Hydramatic three-speed automatic transmission. Coming from a Virginia collection, this restored Star Chief Catalina is repainted in Redwood Copper paint with matching two-tone interior. Options include power steering and aftermarket air conditioning for warm weather comfort. The Catalina coupe was a successful seller for Pontiac that year, and it's easy to see why. Pontiac was just beginning to become GM's performance division in 1957, and this is an opportunity to experience one of the fifties' finest "fun to drive, get up and go" automobiles.
