Long a manufacturer of six-cylinder cars, Pierce-Arrow’s 1928 merger with Studebaker allowed for development of an eight-cylinder engine, which had become nearly de rigueur for prestige automobiles. The result was an L-head design 100 pounds lighter than the big T-head six-cylinder it replaced, with 25% more power. This became the single powerplant choice, albeit in several displacements, until the introduction of a V-12 in 1932. By then the corporate marriage was in trouble, and bankruptcy followed in 1937.

This Model B125 Roadster bears all the iconic hallmarks of the marque: wing-mounted headlamps, triple-barrel taillamps, and archer radiator mascot. The ‘autumn colour’ paint scheme is reminiscent of that era when automakers were emerging from solid hues of black, blue, and grey. Dual side-mount spares allow for a rear-mounted trunk, while the dickie seat accommodates a further two passengers.

The car is generally well presented and has benefitted from a full restoration, with tan leather upholstery and beige canvas hood. The engine compartment is very clean and is correctly detailed. The terms ‘sporting’ and ‘Pierce-Arrow’ are seldom used in the same sentence, but this car belies the apparent contradiction.

Este Model B125 Roadster exibe todas as emblemáticas características da marca: faróis montados nos guarda-lamas, três farolins traseiros agrupados e o arqueiro como mascote de radiador. A combinação de cores outonais é reminescente desta época em que os construtores automóveis procuravam sair dos costumeiros tons sólidos de preto, azul ou cinzento. Os dois pneus sobresselentes, montados um em cada lado, libertam espaço atrás para a mala, enquanto o ‘banco da sogra’, tipo dickey, permite transportar mais dois passageiros.

De uma forma geral muito bem apresentado, tendo beneficiado de um restauro completo, tem interior em pele creme e capota de lona bege. O compartimento do motor está muito limpo e detalhado de forma correta. As palavras“desportivo” e “Pierce-Arrow” raramente são combinadas na mesma frase, mas este automóvel desfaz a aparente contradição.
