Description
By 1954, Piaggio’s Vespa had become a transportation sensation not only in Italy, but further afield in Europe. While visually similar to the Vespas of the previous decade, myriad improvements combined to achieve a sturdier, faster, safer, and more reliable machine. The highly successful Ivory paint color of 1953 was held over for the 1954 model year, and subtle changes were made to the lighting circuit and taillight, in keeping with new regulations.
This 1954 Vespa 125 was delivered new in Torino, Italy, in September 1954, and subsequent registrations are recorded on an accompanying copy of the scooter’s Automobile Club D’Italia document, which also verifies that its license plate displays its original Torino registration number.
This Vespa was restored in Europe and joined Leo Schigiel’s diverse collection in 2016, having seen sparing use since. As a late-production Faro Basso, or “Low Light” Vespa, it is among the last to feature the unencumbered widehandlebar setup and early styling of the leg shield, floorboard, and engine cowls.
Perfect for anyone looking for adventure with a vintage flair, this Vespa 125 is as much at home at a racetrack infield or downtown main drag as it is rolling up to an enchanting Tuscan Villa.
*Please note that this vehicle has been in long-term static storage and may require mechanical attention prior to road use.
