Description

"The Peugeot 205 was produced between 1983 and 1998 and was declared 'Car of the Decade' by CAR magazine in 1990. The styling of the 205 is often thought to be a Pininfarina design however Gérard Welter, Peugeot's chief designer, claims it as an in-house design. The car is often credited as the car which turned Peugeot's fortunes around. It is still known to offer a very rewarding driving experience and is mentioned to this day in group car tests of the newest GTi models or equivalent. Peugeot itself never truly recreated this success in subsequent GTi models although they came close with the highly regarded GTi-6 variant of the 306.
This stunning 1.6 litre GTi is perhaps the best quality, original example we have had the pleasure to appraise, having covered just 48,864 miles from new which, on reviewing the MoT test certificate history, were covered in 1,000-2,000 increments annually until 2015. This car is presented in, unmarked, Steel Grey with the rare combination of black interior with green Chequeres and deep green carpets, all in time warp condition. Supplied originally with factory sunroof and power steering. The car, which we are informed, performs without fault, is regularly run and has a new MoT test certificate valid until August 2020. Although the 1.9 has drawn many a collector and rightly so, many believe the lighter nose of the 1.6 is the car that won the plaudits, when released in 1983, due to its more nimble and race car like handling and never being strangled by the later catalytic converter. This example, with one owner from new, has a fabulous history file dating back to 1991 where the original sales receipt and brochure are found alongside MoT test certificates from 1994, old tax discs and countless invoices. With a recent large service from a garage in Dorset who, upon completion, wrote in the advisories 'probably the best 205 GTi 1.6 in Dorset'. Offered with all the original handbooks, two keys, original sales brochure, the original sales invoice for £11,966.51 and even an original Haynes 205 manual, this example is frankly an unbelievable piece of 'hot hatch' history. We strongly recommend viewing."
