Description

"Peugeot built their first motorcycle in 1898 with a De Dion-Bouton engine mounted on the rear wheel. This model was shown at the 1898 Paris Exhibition but was not put into production. Peugeot did produce a tricycle in 1898 although most of the machine was actually manufactured by De Dion-Bouton.
In 1901, spurred on by the success of the French built Werner Brothers and Company Motobicyclette, Peugeot produced their own motorcycle using a Swiss made Zürcher and Lüthi (ZL) engine. The Peugeot 500 M, a 500cc dual overhead camshaft model appeared in 1914, the first of this type. In 1930, Peugeot absorbed Automoto which had been a pioneer in the field of motorcycles and scooters. Peugeot was the leading French motorcycle manufacturer until the 1950s producing many models.
This attractive model, painted in Olive Green, sports a single leather seat, luggage rack and toolkit which are all presented in superb condition, having undergone a two year restoration just prior to the present owner purchasing it in 2013. It is powered by a three-speed 125cc engine and it is the TCL model which was top of its range in 1953. It also comes with an original Peugeot motorcycle manual which is rare to find and a letter from The Vintage Motor Cycle Club Ltd confirming year of manufacture, frame number and engine number. Supplied with a V5C and a current MoT test certificate valid until 24th October 2024 to confirm its roadworthiness. A rare machine indeed!
