Description

Packard’s 7th Series of 1930 is remembered for including some of the company’s most iconic designs to date. The Roadster, in particular, was styled by Ray Dietrich and displays some of the most beautiful sporting lines and proportions of any American Classic.

According to its chassis plate, this 745 was delivered by Packard of Washington on Christmas Day 1929. Aside from its six wire wheels and a single cowl-mounted spotlight, the dashing black Roadster is otherwise unadorned. Its lack of the often-seen chromed grille guard, articulating driving lights, side-mount covers, mirrors, trunk, or radiator mascot allow the genius of this Packard’s design to take center stage.

This Packard’s Roadster body, originally mated to a 733 chassis, was later mounted on this Deluxe Eight 745 platform, which had previously been finished with closed coachwork. Deluxe door-panel caps and a new seat were fashioned in the 745 style to complete the transformation.

The gently aged dashboard retains its proper instruments, and less than 30,000 miles showed on the odometer at the time of cataloguing. Aside from the aforementioned newer seat leather, the balance of the interior and the convertible top display a welcoming patina. Being made of early safety glass, the windshield and vent wings have begun to delaminate, as older shatterproof panes often do, and the windshield still displays a Pennsylvania registration sticker, dated 1956.

Taken all together, this 745 represents an economically attractive opportunity to acquire a Deluxe series, long-wheelbase Packard now fitted with desirable, sporting coachwork.
