"The Carlton Carriage Company was founded in 1924.Based in Waldo Road, Willesden, North London they were a specialist coach build company who were described as ‘the builder of all-weather coachwork’ One of their notable clients was Winston Churchill who in 1939,the year before he was elected Prime Minister, commissioned Carlton to build a drophead coupe on a Daimler DB18 chassis.3 years earlier Carlton were to work on this Packard 120.This was to be a one off. We are told that ‘forward of the windscreen and for the length of the chassis the car is Packard built but from the dashboard back the bodywork is a product of Carlton’.
We are also lead to believe that the first owner of the impressive car purchased it off the dealer stand at the 1936 Olympia Motor Show. The car we see here has undergone a complete restoration under the guidance of its marque enthusiast owner. It is easy to see the tremendous attention to detail that was taken during the process. Not only is this a unique model but it also presents extremely well in black with a cream interior, white wall tyres and a new beige hood. The chrome work gleams and this Sedanca features running boards, an impressive set of Marchal Aerolux headlamps, Semaphor indicators and years ahead of its time a hydraulic device for raising and lowering the car to facilitate wheel change. This Mot exempt Packard is offered to auction with a V5C registration document and the March 2018 copy of Classic American in which it features on both the front cover and an informative article.This is a rare opportunity to purchase an even rarer car.
