This Opel Kapitän P2 is truly a unique vehicle. It first touched the Dutch tarmac in 1959. The first owner was the father of man we bought the car from. He bought the Opel when new from his local dealer. This car has uniquely remained in the same family for 61 years! The car was passed on to his son when his health prevented him from driving. His father’s simple advice was: “ As I always loved the car is I will trust you to look after her”. This without as doubt has always been the priority during the life of this Kapitän. Our Kapitän still has its first coat of paint, the body panels are as straight as the when the car was delivered and the body panels are all correctly aligned. It needs no further explanation that the bodywork is rust-free as it is underneath where the chassis is completely rust-free and original. The fact this Kapitän almost totally has its first coat of paint completes the picture of the this Opel’s. Mechanically it is flawless. The 2.6 litre straight-six runs wonderfully well and smooth, thanks to very good service and maintenance and careful use. The 3-speed gearbox shifts perfectly and precisely. The interior trim, all the carpets, upholstery and other parts are all in top condition. Looking at the state of the interior it immediately is clear that the car has always been kept inside when not in use. Sitting behind the steering wheel one can not fail to notice the fantastic range of sight through the panoramic window.
