This is really quite a special find. We rarely have come across such an original Opel Commodore A. On
the 27th May 1970 this new car was bought by the then director of the Enschede hospital. He sold it
some 21 years later to its second and most recent owner, who also looked after the car in perfect
fashion. Funnily enough the Commodore hasn’t been driven to any great extent over the last 50 years.
The odometer only reads 123,118 km. The Opel Commodore was considered to a luxury car in its day.
Our car is the 2-door sedan version in a brilliant navy blue finish with vinyl roof covering. The
paintwork had been reapplied for cosmetic reasons in the past. The bodywork is very authentic. The
nice and thin panelwork has correct alignment. In the 70’s Opel were renowned for their propensity to
rust. Due the extremely good care and attention as well as this large Opel’s use only in clement
weather, this example has no rust whatsoever. The car has always been garaged and wonderfully well
maintained. Open the door and peek inside to admire the extremely authentic condition inside the
cabin. The black carpets and black vinyl upholstery are still in fine shape. The dashboard has wooden
inlay and clear counters with the 3-spoke steering wheel as the icing on the cake. The Opel Commodore
has a single Zenith carburettor straight-six 2.5 litre engine. The engine is coupled to a 3-speed
automatic transmission. Opel discontinued the use of the 2-speed Powerglide in 1969 in favour of the
modern 3-speed automatic system. This automatic gives the car a fine sedate drive. The engine starts
on the button and is nice and quite. As is de rigour with a luxury vehicle the engine is place lengthwise
and drives the rear wheels. The car has refined driving characteristics and is remarkably quite for its
age. The car comes with its original service book and owner’s manual. The Opel Commodore is really a
very rare sight these days and especially in this condition absolutely nowhere to found.
We invite you to check out this gorgeously finished, very rare and unique Opel Commodore A!
