Description

"Oldsmobile was founded by Ransom E. Olds in 1897 and, throughout its 107 year history, the company produced a staggering 35.2 million cars. When it was phased out in 2004, Oldsmobile was the oldest surviving American marque and one of the oldest in the world. Officially, the cars were called 'Olds Automobiles', but were affectionately referred to as 'Oldsmobiles'.
This imposing yet sleek pillarlessflagship Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight coach built by Fisheris presented in dark green with the typically luxurious trim of a Ninety-Eight from the 1960’s including power seat, tinted glass and a rev counter, together with the 6.5 litre 330 bhp‘Rocket’ 394ci V8 - one of the most famous powerplants ever produced - and state of the art (at the time) Hydramatic drive. Offered in very good condition throughout, this example has a fabulous history which our vendor sourcedafter finding an old wedding invitation in the glovebox, and after a few phone calls it was discovered that it was originally purchased by the family that owns the oldest continuously trading theatre the Grand Theatre in Crookston, Minnesota; a theatre in which the one and only Charlie Chaplin performed.  This corresponded to many receipts, written letters and even a service bill from Boxing Day 1973 found in the history file. Mrs Hiller we believe owned the car originally and then passed it down to her son who passed it onto the third generation.
Restored about 10 years ago when door handles and exterior badging were also removed (entry by external hidden micro switch) this example is supplied with an original accessories brochure, first aid kit, owner’s manual, protection plan tags and original dealership sales brochure which states that the 98 has ‘lines that say‘look’, fabrics that say ‘feel’ and impeccable craftmanship, one of Americas most luxurious cars’. With an MoT until March 2021, a documented (and warranted) gearbox rebuild earlier this year and in great condition, this is a real throwback to 60’s luxury and performance when the car you drove said everything about you in middle America.
