Description
Moto Guzzi was founded by three Italian Air Corpsmen during WWI, among them Carlo Guzzi, the company’s namesake. Moto Guzzi went on to produce countless outstanding sports and racing bikes, including its legendary 350 cc and 500 cc horizontal single-cylinder models. The horizontal engine layout didn’t compromise frame design in the way that a tall, long-stroke single did, allowing the company to create much lower frames, which improved handling and aerodynamics.
This rare G.T.V. model is powered by a single-cylinder 500 cc engine and features the company’s famous “Bologna Slicer” external flywheel. This flywheel design allows for a more rigid crankcase while simultaneously looking ready to provide some thinly cut antipasti. With the “V” series, Moto Guzzi employed a foot-operated four-speed gearbox and an engine with both intake and exhaust valves located in the head for the first time, a milestone for the firm. The GT designation stood for the rear suspension, another innovation which the company adopted rather early on. This gorgeous restored example was purchased in 2017 by Miami-based collector Leo Schigiel to complement his impressive stable of Moto Guzzis, world-class Italian cars, and motorcycles. The Guzzi is fitted with a beautifully restored matching Parri sidecar complete with windscreen, making it even rarer and more distinctive. A Best of Show winner at the 2019 Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance, this G.T.V. 500 would surely be an eye-catching conversation piece in any collection.
