Description
"These fabulous and popular little cars were designed in 1959 and were heralded as a new concept in car design, little did they know or envisage what would become of these great models. With a monocoque shell, transversely mounted engine and front wheel drive, the new 'Mini' soon became popular across the world and to all types of individual well healed or not! The potential for competition use was soon seen by John Cooper; he eventually persuaded BMC and the two worked together culminating in the birth of the Austin Mini Cooper and the Morris Mini Cooper in 1961.
This great fast road/rally example was rebuilt for competition and eligibility between 2017 and 2019, it had previously been in long term ownership for some 30 years. Presented in red with a half roll cage, we are informed that this example has had works undertaken by Downton Tuning which included fitting a 1,300 GT head with the original 1,275 GT remaining with the car. In addition, the works list contained many upgraded new parts including brake and clutch master cylinders, steering column, modern alternator and starter motor, gearbox rebuild, front tyres, exhaust and ignition cut off for competition use. In 2019, the car competed at the annual Crystal Palace race and the Mini Run.
Within the history file is the current V5C registration document and a MoT test certificate from 2018 when the car was last tested as it is now Tax and MoT exempt. Showing 24,600 recorded miles, this reliable, collectable and lovable pocket rocket is ready for club competition or Sunday fun. Offered with traditional rally lights and in fast road specification and an new MoT certificate this early 1969 example could be the most fun you could have with your clothes on!"
