Description
"The history of this revolutionary motorcar is well known and its impact socially, culturally and mechanically is well documented. The Swinging Sixties, The Beatles, Twiggy and the Mini are inexorably combined to represent an era that is remembered with great fondness by many people. The side story is the Mini's impact on motorsport and this is no less extraordinary. Issigonis' friend John Cooper, owner of the Cooper Car Company and designer and builder of Formula One and rally cars, saw the potential of the Mini for competition.
This three owner example of the Morris Mini 850 was built in 1962 and registered on 1st January 1963. It has been in current ownership for some 51 years and has been used as intended throughout its life, the vendor was familiar with the car from new, and belonged to a friend before he purchased it in 1973. Presented in light blue the Mini is ready for restoration having been dry stored for the past decade. Since it was driven into the garage for the last time the clutch has seized and the bodywork will need attending to, along with various mechanicals. The history file that accompanies the car includes many old MoT test certificates, invoices for maintenance work, old tax discs, and the current registration document. This example offered at no reserve is rather original, and even retains the original wiper motor with stamping 12,62,12V. This makes for a very exciting restoration project indeed and is also offered with its transferable cherished registration number ‘6225 PK’! Consignor Daniel Godin
