Description

The 970 S is one of the most desirable Mini models, but only 963 were produced for Formula Junior homologation (the rules were: less than 1000 units and less than 1000cc), so there must be around 80 cars left in circulation.

A rare variant of the iconic British version, which has benefited from a complete restoration.

This example has all its original parts (AEG151 block, 22G190 3-synchromesh gearbox, AEG163 cylinder head, original upholstery and, above all, the rare “Recliner” front seats).

Power comes from a 970 cm3 A-series in-line four-cylinder engine, whose figures would be identical, coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox with synchros on the first three gears.
Cooper produced two models specifically for circuit racing, with 970 cm3 and 1,275 cm3 engines. The smaller-engined model was only intended to be homologated for racing in classes below 1000 cm3 capacity, and only 961 models were built with 970 cm3 engines before the model was discontinued in April 1965.

It was acquired by the seller via My Mini Revolution about a year ago. Prior to this purchase, the car underwent a complete restoration that involved total disassembly and rebuilding.
The odometer shows 68,219 miles, which is not justified given the restoration.
