Description

"The Alex Issigonis designed Mini became the classless but chic motorcar to be seen in during the 1960’s and beyond. The '1960s cool' saw pop idols and Royalty mixing it with the common man and with so many Minis being built it was, perhaps, inevitable that variations on the theme would be born. Inspired by Harold Radford’s upmarket Mini de Ville, Wood & Pickett Ltd established itself in the 1960’s and led by Bill Wood and Les Pickett, the ex-employees of the specialist coachbuilder Hooper & Co. The company was purchased by the Henlys Group in 1986, and later sold to entrepreneur Mike Bush in 1989.
This exceptional Mini benefits from an extensive luxurious specification and by virtue of the fact it was restored in the 1990s it presents in very good order throughout. Originally registered on 10th June 1970, this example benefits from Mercedes-Benz headlamps which are a rare option on these cars, it is thought they were fitted only to Omar Sharif’s Mini Margrave and one other example; twin fuel tanks are another feature of this car. Fitted with a 1,380cc engine with a Steve Harris big valve cylinder head and twin SU carburettors, this is mated to a Jack Knight five speed gearbox. Other mechanical changes include adjustable gas shock absorbers, front disc brakes and 6J alloy wheels. Electric windows, air conditioning, leather trim and Wilton carpets together with an impressive array of clocks and dials complement the interior. This righthand drive Wood & Pickett Mini is a superb example and one that is becoming increasingly rare.Interested parties should note that this Mini Margrave has been re-shelled using a later type body. Please read the history folder for full details."
